IT backfill and temporary coverage in Chicagoland

A senior, ITIL-certified engineer who steps into your environment for a few days, a few weeks, or a longer stretch — covering leave, vacancies, rollouts, and project surges without a staffing-agency markup.

Coverage when your team is short

IT managers and MSPs bring me in when the work doesn't stop but the people are out: parental or medical leave, a vacancy that takes months to fill, vacation season, or a rollout that needs extra hands for a few weeks. I work inside your processes and tools, take tickets from your queue, and leave clear notes so your team picks up exactly where I left off.

Engagements run from a single day to multi-week and monthly blocks — up to a year — across Chicago, Oak Brook, Schaumburg, the western suburbs, and the southwest suburbs.

Common backfill engagements

An engineer, not a placement

A staffing agency sends whoever is available and adds its margin. With IT-OnCall you get the same senior engineer for the whole engagement — someone who has run multi-site service desks, ramps up fast, and is accountable for the work from the first day to the closeout.

Vendor-ready from day one

Procurement needs paperwork before the first day. Request the vendor packet or open the Trust Center.

How it works

From request to first day

01Request

Send dates and scope

Use the request form: the site, the dates and hours, the systems involved, and what needs covering.

02Onboard

Confirm and onboard

I confirm availability and send a written scope and rate, usually the same day. COI, W-9, NDA and site-access requirements are handled before day one.

03Cover

Coverage with a clean handoff

I work in your environment with a documented handoff each day and a closeout summary when the engagement ends.

Questions

Common questions

How much notice do you need for backfill coverage?
For planned leave or a rollout, a week or two lets me block the dates and finish your vendor onboarding. Shorter-notice starts are possible when my calendar allows. Send the dates and I'll confirm, usually the same day.
Can you work inside our ticketing system and follow our processes?
Yes. I've run multi-site service desks and built ServiceDesk Plus and Freshservice systems, so I work tickets in your tool, follow your escalation paths, and leave a documented handoff at the end of each day.
Can you sign our NDA and vendor agreements?
Yes. A Certificate of Insurance, W-9, and NDA review are part of standard onboarding, and I'm background-check ready for sites that require it. Request the vendor packet to get started.
Do you work directly with companies or through MSPs?
Both. Companies hire me directly, and MSPs and IT vendors bring me in as subcontract coverage. Partner rates are available on request.
